In Memorium: Charlotte Hyde, PhD

I have been struggling with finding a way to write this for almost a week now, but there is no more putting it off. On Friday, April 26, 2019 we lost one of our NYMG family members, Charlotte Hyde. Charlotte first joined NYMG as a graduate student more than 5 years ago. She had been a friend a colleague for about 3 years by that point and we had discovered a mutual love of video games, books, and Lego.

Charlotte was a fixture on the podcast and blog for several years and while she was a bit less raucous than the rest of us she fit right in with her Texas lilt and dry sense of humor. She was also one of the most genuine and generous people that I have ever met, We will never forget her love of the macabre and the hours we spent talking about board and video games, Legos, and her beloved puppies both over the mic and over a beer.

Charlotte carried her quiet passion for video games, Lego, and NASA into her scholarship and pedagogy and it was absolutely infectious. I can only hope that I can carry a little bit of that passion with me always, but for now I will kick back with a shandy and a Lego kit to honor her memory and our friendship. Charlotte, we’ll love you always.
